Sara Dobson’s residency at The Wig in Ladywood, Birmingham finished on Friday with a public presentation of re-contextualised work, new drawing and collage and an unexpected new performance piece!
The performance used a floor painting Dobson had made as a graphic score to be interpreted by a singer [Rose Mitchell] as she moved along it, fully costumed, and without any public announcement as to what was about to happen. The vocal was at one moment a smooth and sustained note and at another a more staggered sound as the score changed. Also in the show were some fascinating collages of notation made in collaboration with Rose which informed the performance. A really interesting work and I look forward to seeing more from Sara!
